Faris Badwan is the lead vocalist, Tom Cowan is the synthesizer, Joshua Hayward is the guitar/piano player, Joe Spurgeon is the drums and percussion/backing vocals, and Rhys Webb is the bass/organ  vocalist.

This advert is very appealing due to the use of different effects. Unlike other adverts, this one does not have bright colors, which is usually what catches a persons eye. Instead, the use of black and white are highly bright and shines throughout the middle.
First of all, the main title matches the other headings "THE HORRORS" is in capitals, it is colored in bright white, and underlined. This is able to signify they are the light in the dark. The fact it is also underlined, can show they are bold, and it can draw the line between 'light' and 'dark'.
The whole theme is black and white; this is able to signify they are loomey, dark and mysterious. This is able to link in with the rock theme/ There is a animal in the middle of the page, floating in the air. This looks quite random and weird, which is able to link in with the sub heading "STRANGE HOUSE". The main image is the five people in the band, looking straight at the camera, although you are  unable to see their face clearly, they all have big volumized hair, that's covering their identities; this is able to signify when listening to their music you do not see the 'real' them, but see identities created through the use of their music.
There is also a table in front of the group; it is reflecting the top of them; this could be signifying the image you see of them is a reflection from their music. The fact they are slouching on the chair, is able to suggest they are a laid back kind of group; and their music is more full on.

The writing at the bottom of the screen is also bold and in the middle, this is so this is also able to catch your eye. The whole colors of the page is different shades of black and white, usually black and white connotes dullness, feeling bored, or sympathy.

Ellie Goulding Magazine Advert

Ellie's advert is effective as its able to catch your eye due to bright and bold themes. First of all, the title is at the bottom in the middle of the page, the font is a classy type in a golden colour; this is able to join perhaps into the name 'Goulding' 'Gold'. This could be the reason why the cover is designed in golden/black colours. The font of Ellie's magazine font is generally the same, this is due to recognition from the public.

The main image of Ellie is in the center of the page, it's a close up of her face, she is looking into the distance. This could suggest when listening to Ellie's music, it's able to open your eyes and you can see further. Also, the colour of Ellie's hair is also a golden blonde colour; this is able to link into the theme of the whole page, this enables it to flow and be more effective. Magazine Analysis Jessie J

Magazine Analysis - Jessie J Who You Are

Jessie J's magazine cover is highly effective due to the use of eye catching techniques. Firstly, the image of Jessie J is in the centre of the page; this can signify she feels her music brings her to the center of attention. Also, the fact that Jessie's hands are on either side of her head, looking as if she is pulling through or ripping something; this can signify she is coming out of her shell, and becoming the real Jessie J that she wants everyone to see.

The font also is right in the center of the screen, it's coloured in gold shiny colours, which also fades at the bottom. This could be able to signify Jessie only feels successful when she is at the top - her music is becoming popular, or at least well known and this can make her feel powerful about herself.

Jessie's make up is also able to relate to the positioning of her hands. Her hands are shaped like fists, her make up is a smokey look, which looks difficult to see around with. However, it seems as if her hands are pulling her make up back for Jessie to see clearly.  This is able to relate to the debut album name "Who You Are" which could be explaining by listening to Jessie's music will open up your eyes to everything around you. Jessie's eyes are also coloured blue on this page, this is able to link to the plain white background, blue and white can signify purity and peace, this can signify by looking through all the make up, music and act, Jessie may be a quiet general young woman.

The whole theme of the magazine is black, white and gold. This is able to represent a classy lifestyle for Jessie J. It can also show the tracks should be up to a certain standard. The whole page itself has a professional touch with a look of elegancy. The fonts also are all the same, this gives the page a professional look and is also recognizable. The only font that is different is the 'Jessie J' at the center of the page; this is because this type of font is a star logo for Jessie J's name.

The record label is also at the bottom left of the page; showing she is signed to 'Lava Records'. This can show Jessie J is a good singer, and performer as Lava Records do not sign anybody, also with their high recognition and power, can suggest Jessie J is a brilliant artist. This can also be the reason why the magazine front cover looks so professional and complete.

The Final Treatment

The Treatment

About the Artist

Born in July 1990 as one of 20 siblings, and one of the sons of Reggae producer Blacker Dead, Ratlin has had music in his blood from birth. Despite Ratlin's bad upbringing he was still able to come out as a good person and have a good future ahead of him.

As a child, Ratlin only played football in 'Fulham FC Young Footballers' because of his brothers also done this, he felt he had to follow to make his family proud. Although he was good at football, this was not what he enjoyed doing. Due to this being the only thing he was able to do properly, Ratlin believed he had to stay doing it.

However, things turned for the worse when he was caught with illegal drugs at a football training and was then kicked out of the club. Although he did not enjoy playing football, it was the only thing he could do without getting into trouble. Ratlin took this very bad and turned to the streets, starting selling illegal drugs and staying out all night getting up to no good. His brothers and sisters knew they had to do something as Ratlin became worse each day. One of his brothers suggested he should try music, due to their family having music in their blood.

Ratlin began going to a small studio, rapping about personal issues in his life, for example 'On My Lonely' was rapped from the heart and became very popular. Ratlin realised he had a good future within music; he stopped staying out all night,  and gave up the drugs. Now, Ratlin is only focused on his music career, being booked for shows, events etc is what he aims for. "I would rather everyone listen to my track than get rich from it, not that i don't wanna be broke" Ratlin stated in one of his interviews.

Ratlin's music has now became highly successful due to the dedication he has put in it, and the fact he has had a bad upbringing, he is able to put all his emotions into the songs, to create a more of an understanding of him. The mix tape "Summertime in Mexico" has been a big success for Ratlin, which includes the smash hit 'Messiah' Ft. Mavado, plus 19 more tracks, which are available for free.

Ratlin believes his songs should be free as no one should have to pay to listen to music. Due to his different way of thinking, is the reason why Ratlin has became so popular within the music industry. Also, being a young black boy in South West London was difficult as Ratlin was forever being stopped by police, many times was a stereotype because of how he was dressed and looked; black tracksuits, hoodies up with his hands in his pockets. Ratlin felt as if he had to make a difference to the stereotype of young black boys, as he felt he was able to change person when he was in the studios.

Our Vision

We have agreed for there to be two couples, one will be a good relationship, and the other a bad relationship. Due to the fact there will be no actual conversation, we have to show the storyline through singing, and small scenes; miss-en-scene.

The first couple are the role model relationship; the fact they will be positioned close together can show how they feel for each other. They will be in a bedroom relaxing together, this scene will have a relaxed theme to show how comfortable they feel with each other.
The girl will be wearing minimal makeup and not a lot of jewellery; this is so it can show she is not with the boy for his money, and she also has nothing to cover up, everything in their relationship is honest. The boy will be dressed in a casual white tee, and jeans, he will not wear a hoodie as this could connote ignorance, or the boy has something to hide due to the fact the hood could be done up to the top.

The second couple will be the bad relationship. Both the girl and boy will be unfaithful to each other. This will be shown through mise-en-scene, they will be positioned far apart from each other, for example standing apart from each side of the room arguing. There will be close up shots of their faces to show their emotions, wide shot to show how far apart they are from each other.

The girl will be wearing a lot of bling, short skirts and crop tops, with heels. She will also be wearing  a lot of make up, and in the centre of the screen. This will be able to connote she is the one in the relationship with all the money and power, she will be in the middle of the screen with all the light faced on her. There will also be a scene with the girl walking past a car rubbing her hand on it. This can signify all she truly wants is materialised things she's able to keep and touch. Whilst she is in the lime light, the boy will be in the corner of the screen, in a general t-shirt, with no bling, this will be able to connote his girlfriend is sucking out the fun and money away from him. The fact his lighting will be darker than hers, will show he is always in the background, with her nobody pays any attention to him, including the girl.
