Music Video Annotation - Ratlin ft Karina: Ride For Me
I have chosen this music video as both singers are not professionally signed, this allows me to use the music video as this is not copyright. Here are the lyrics below:Karina :
Im the one that'll Ride for you,
Im the one that'll Lie for you,
You rock my world and makin me smile.
Ill be by your side until the end of time,
Ride or Die, death do us part, Ride to the end, Ride from the start.

This music video is different to others as the opening is already the chorus, this shows that the song is straight to the point and more engaging to their audience. The fact the lyrics repeat the first lines "Im the one that'll..." "im the one that'll" is signifying the fact she is repeating herself to get her point across. Furthermore, the vocabulary used represents the type of genre the songs has been created in; for example, on the third line "makin" is used, this is clearly not the correct spelling and is spelt in the form of "slang". This conforms with the stereotype of young artists using informal English within their lyrics.

Ye, if i ride would you ride for me?
Would you do a little time for me?
If i was broke would you still show love?
would you, would you rode if i rode on a bus?
If i die, would you cry for me?
If i get nicked, would you tell a lie for me?
i need to know straight from the heart, would you leave me cah my friends got a better car?

The second verse within the lyrics clearly conform with many stereotypes of young black artists using "slang" in their music videos. For example, the first word "ye" is not an actual word, showing this is slang. He is also repeating himself at the end of each line "if i ride would you ride for me?" "would you do a little time for me?" this indicates his feelings for the girl, the fact he is repeating himself at the end of the lines can show how desperate he is for the girl to want or need him.
He also uses words such as "nicked" and "cah", again this can conform the stereotype of young black boys using slang
Real talk leme know where a ni**a stands,
Tell me how you feel so i understand,
Can i trust you with my life, can i class you as my wife?
Would you stay if i did a little time?
Words aint enough girl i need proof,
Im a thug, buh you thought i was a sweet yout,
Would you Ride girl? i gota know,
if not, goodbye girl i gota go.
Karina :
Im the one that'll Ride for you,
Im the one that'll Lie for you,
You rock my world and makin me smile.
Ill be by your side until the end of time,
Ride or Die, death do us part,
Ride to the end, Ride from the start.

In the first verse, Ratlin raps "Real Talk Let me know where a n***a stands", this can conform with the stereotype of young black boys show inappropriate language. Although this is not a good role model to act as, males however are still able to relate with what he is saying. Furthermore, Ratlin says "Would you stay if i did a little time?" this can be highly relatable to many young males and how they're living, this can make them relate to Ratlin's personality, due to the same up growing or past.
"Im a thug but you thought i was a sweet your" this can also be relatable to many young boys listening to the song, also females, as they may think the boy they like is a 'sweet boy' though getting to know him he is different. The themes and subjects Ratlin brings up in his lyrics are highly relatable to both male and females, as it circles the topic of hard love.
The chorus is a catchy chorus which you can find yourself singing, not only can this appeal to a certain type of audience, but can increase the audience as it can become a social media networking topic, for example someone singing the song can then ask "have you heard the song?" this would then increase the audience. The chorus then sings "Ride or Die, death do us part". This can be an inspiration to many girls that have boyfriends, or may desire a type of boyfriend that also feels the same type of way.

Ratlin :
ye, if i got famous would you stay loyal?
Look into my eyes, girl say now,
You claim that your real an your gona Ride,
Tell the truth, you aint gota lie.
If i never had a name, would you still want me?
If i never got paid, would you still love me?
would you? If i smell would you still hug me?
If i had a little fling, would you still trust me?
I need a wife, no quick fuck,
Look hot by my side in a drop top,
Real bonny and clide, no fling on the side,
Girl let me know what you got on your mind.
Would you Ride, if i Ride for ya?
If i got pitched, would i be inside of ya heart?
If i Die, would you cry for me?
Girl let me know, would you Ride for me?

The previous verses of the song is Ratlin rapping about his own feelings, it looks as if Ratlin is talking personal or asking questions from his heart "If i never got paid would you still love me?" This lyric is able to relate to many boys that may possibly feel girls are using them for their money. The song can then relate to a lot more people that feel this way.
"I need a wife no quick f***k, look hot by my side in a drop top, real bonnie and clyde no thing on the side". Again, these few verses are able to draw in a wider audience due to the topics he is bringing up. In our society, it seems boys and girls are not serious with themselves, and boys take advantage of weak, or perhaps girls that let them and leads to broken hearts. These lyrics bring up the problems within our society, and can then show how important it is not to do this.

The fact the chorus is itself repeats itself within the actual lyrics, can show the determines of the female that is willing to 'ride' for Ratlin. The word "you" is repeated over and over again, this can symbolise everything being sang is just aimed at one person. The song can be inspiring to perhaps couples that go through problems with each other, the lyrics can make them realise they're not the only ones that have troubles.
